Commissioning a burner: think about your safety
Where to place your fireplace
Whether you choose a table-top, floor-standing or wall-mounted model, your fireplace should always be installed on a stable support. It's best not to put it in a place where there's a lot of foot traffic: you'll avoid any risk of accidental impact with the fireplace or burns. In the same way, a fireplace installed in a strong draught will always see its flame enlarged, but also deflected.
Refuelling
Make sure that the burner is horizontal and, if necessary, that it is correctly installed in the chimney. Once this preliminary stage is complete, you will need to refill the burner: this time there are several options available to you.
Filling directly
We don't recommend transferring the liquid directly from the canister to the tank: you're guaranteed to spill ethanol around the burner, and even into your chimney lining. If you accidentally do this, don't light your fireplace without first mopping up any fuel spillage. Also make sure that the liquid has not fallen inside the body of the chimney: if this is the case, you will need to mop it up before lighting.
Filling with a beaker
A familiar utensil to chemists and pharmacists, the beaker is a graduated glass or plastic jar, which is very practical in our case. First, fill the beaker with ethanol, taking care to select the correct dose for the tank using the scale. Then use the pouring spout to fill the burner without spilling anything.
Using a filling pump
There are quick-fill pumps, both manual and motorised. A rigid rod is inserted into the ethanol canister, while a flexible hose is connected to the burner tank. This makes it impossible for even the clumsiest of people to spill ethanol. We sell these pumps in the accessories section of our site.
Getting started
You should avoid the potential pitfalls of the last stage, namely burns resulting from contact with the flame during lighting. Ethanol is a highly flammable fuel, so keep your hands away from the fire. You can use safety matches, or better still, a long safety lighter - which we also sell.
To finish off
A long text that sounds like a warning could dissuade or frighten: bear in mind that an ethanol fireplace represents the possibility of having a flame in your home, without the need for any work - but that it remains above all a pleasure object, allowing you to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere in your home. It doesn't take long to put these few tips into practice, and they soon become automatic. In short, enjoy your fires in the living room!
