Painting Paris

This painting of the city of Paris takes us back in time, to when the City of Light was populated by artists. During the Roaring Twenties, it was not uncommon to come across such illustrious figures as André Breton, Max Ernst, Salvador Dali and Jean Cocteau on the streets of Paris.

That's what this painting promises, offering us a view of a Parisian street. The perspective formed by the lampposts and the row of trees leads our eye to two silhouettes, apparently female, reflected on the still damp pavement. Who are they? Where are they going?

The rhythm of the painting is provided by the recursive nature of the street furniture. The very autumnal colours are brought out by the foliage of the trees and the Parisian shop windows.

This is an acrylic canvas with melancholy tones that would be perfect to hang in a Parisian flat or in an artist's loft nostalgic for the Roaring Twenties.
