This panoramic canvas makes excellent use of light. It depicts a line of birch trees with black and white bark, and a background showing a lovely gradation from the black and gold of the wheat, to the green of the meadow, to the blue of the sky.

A beautiful contrast between a foreground filled with vertical lines and a background stretching from right to left creates an imaginary grid on which the eye gets lost.
