When painting meets botanical study
That's the idea behind this painting: a cross between an artistic composition and something more technical, a botanical study. We can see a flower that appears to be a buttercup, represented from various angles. It can be seen at the beginning and end of the composition in the form of a bud, a clever way for the painter to introduce his main subject. Between these buds are two large flowers, one seen in profile, the other from above. The artist is therefore complete in the visual description of his subject in flower.
Even so, the rather stylised line used is still decorative. The background, too, is decorative in nature, with the material and the reminders of the colours that support the flowers. A few warm red highlights round off this rather interesting botanical composition.
