A painting representing the ephemeral flower

This painting depicts a flower that, judging by its shape and colours, could be an ornamental poppy. It is painted vertically on a large canvas (60 x 120 cm). Symbolism is not absent from this composition. 3 flowers are represented. Starting at the top of the painting, we see the first poppy in bud. Then comes the perfect flower, open and fresh, followed by its older counterpart, in the process of closing and withering.

This could be seen as an allusion by the painter to the passage of time: he has also deliberately depicted other plant elements in a rather stylised way. The example of the stems of these flowers is quite striking; they seem to have been calligraphed, and become almost handwritten elements.
