This design painting has a precise, clean composition. The artist chose to inscribe his work in a square, a perfect shape, which he cut out in the central part using two perpendicular elements. First, a red cardboard element, which fits into the height of the canvas - then another element, this time suggested by the edges of two round elements. This is geometric abstraction, a key trend in early twentieth-century art.

Tension

This is a geometric composition in which the shapes clash. Straight and curved lines intersect, and bright and neutral colours face each other. All these elements create a certain tension behind a visually ordered whole. The contrast is also reflected in the materials used in the painting: the softness of the canvas against the hardness of the metal, the warmth of the red paint against the coldness of the knife paint.
