The background of the painting

Simulated by 6 panels in dark brown tones, it appears to be textured, providing support for the whole. The anathema formed by these panels provides an eye-catching visual.

Foreground: the flowers

The anathema is still very much present. Look at the flowers, which appear to be stylised tulips, and you'll see that they are a reminder of the colours in the background. These tulips, placed on the 5 panels in the foreground, which seem to be tearing themselves away from the paint, add rhythm to the whole. Finally, the background of these panels is a light yellow, shading to tobacco shades and contrasting well with the background.
