The subject

This is the mood of this contemporary painting, which takes a new approach to the genre of the canvas. Offering a view of a sailing boat that appears to be a small tuna boat, it is intriguing because of the way it can be read: the movement of the boat from the right to the left of the canvas seems to indicate a difficult trip out to sea for the sailors on board.

Tonal range

In terms of colour, the artist has chosen to use relatively soft tones. The first thing that comes to mind is the old photos from the early 20th century, which were turned sepia and gave off brown tones. We also see a pencil line that echoes the spirit of the drawings by the sailor-draughtsman Titouan Lamazou. The combination of these two styles gives this painting a patina that blends the ancient and the modern, giving it great cachet.
