Here is a painting that invites us to travel, both in time and in space, so let's explore it together.
We will all have noticed that we are in Paris, in what appears to be the Montmartre or Abbesses district, certainly not far from the picturesque staircases of rue Foyatier. The action seems to take place in another era, when Paris was less touristy and more real: the early 20th century. We almost expect to come across Toulouse Lautrec, Modigliani or Picasso, or any of the other artists who populated what was then known as the City of Light.
Far from the lights of the cabarets that stand out in the street, we can see the Sacré-Coeur on the horizon, the famous Parisian basilica that seems to be the final destination of our journey.
